Partner Spotlight: Empirical Education

We are thrilled to spotlight Empirical Education as a key partner in the Sankofa Chronicles project. Empirical Education’s mission is to promote effective and equitable education by providing research services and context-relevant evaluations of programs, products, and policies that empower educators and bring about impactful solutions. With their expertise in educational research, data analysis, engineering, and project management, Empirical Education has worked with school systems to conduct dozens of rigorous experiments.  Their ability to analyze complex educational data and transform it into clear, actionable reports ensures that initiatives like Sankofa Chronicles are on track to meet their goals.

A standout aspect of Empirical Education’s work is its extensive experience supporting EIR (Education Innovation and Research) Grant awardees. They’ve worked with several educational organizations to evaluate and provide formative feedback to improve innovative projects funded by the EIR grant, ensuring that these initiatives have a real, lasting impact on students and educators. Their work with EIR-funded projects demonstrates their deep understanding of the needs of educational innovators and their ability to assess outcomes with precision. Their current EIR projects include Sankofa Chronicles, How Are the Children, and FRACTAL. 

In addition to their work with EIR awardees, Empirical Education has been involved in several high-profile projects. These include:

  • The Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI): Empirical Education conducted a cluster-randomized trial involving 82 schools and ~700 teachers. The trial assessed the efficacy of AMSTI, a statewide STEM initiative, over a three-year period and showed an overall positive effect.  
  • The Regional Educational Laboratories (RELs): Since 2005, Empirical Education has partnered with six of the ten labs, conducting applied research projects and providing research-based technical assistance to state and local educational agencies.
  • The Compassion, Reflection, and Equity for Atlanta Teacher Effectiveness (CREATE): Over the last ten years, Empirical Education has partnered with Georgia State University College of Education and Human Development to provide evaluation services for CREATE, a three-year residency program for early career teachers.

Empirical Education’s extensive experience in planning, research, and reporting ensures that every project they support is backed by solid data, allowing for continuous improvement.
